WHO EB156 - FDI-IADR statement on Item 23.2
FDI World Dental Federation (FDI) and the International Association for Dental Research (IADR) welcome the proposed programme budget, which aligns with areas where countries require technical cooperation. We applaud its inclusiveness and efforts to address global health priorities, such as oral health.
Member States` commitments to increase prevention, early detection, management and rehabilitation services for NCDs, including oral health, will fall short of impact without adequate financing and WHO-led technical cooperation.
Oral diseases are a global public health challenge requiring sustained efforts. Therefore, having a new indicator to monitor access to essential oral health interventions in GPW14 and the programme budget is an important milestone in tackling oral diseases.
We urge Member States to leverage this commitment to expand access to essential oral healthcare and establish the necessary oral health research and surveillance systems to support WHO`s monitoring efforts.
