Section 1 - Introduction

Our members are our greatest asset. We rely on your wealth of knowledge and expertise to raise the profile of oral health at the national and regional levels, and to provide examples at the global level of actions that encourage oral health promotion and facilitate access to oral healthcare.

In May 2021, we witnessed the return of oral health to the global health agenda with the adoption of a World Health Organization (WHO) resolution on Oral health at the 74th session of the World Health Assembly (WHA74.5). The resolution recognizes the burden of oral diseases and their associations with other noncommunicable diseases (NCDs), urging countries to address shared risk factors, enhance the professional capacity of oral health workers to deliver consistent and quality care, and to include oral health in universal health coverage (UHC) benefit packages. It also asks WHO to develop a global strategy and action plan on oral health with 2030 targets, among other follow-up actions.

FDI’s Vision 2030 report was launched in parallel to this key milestone and aims to provide guidance on the effective implementation of this new resolution to WHO, countries, member organizations and the world of dentistry. It will also inform our future advocacy strategy and help provide the rationale for oral health to be considered as being integral to NCD and UHC responses.

FDI asks for your help in coordinating a consolidated response to the upcoming 2022 global strategy on oral health, so that we can input in an evidence-based way by providing national and regional perspectives. We would like to hear about your advocacy experiences and how you monitor oral health promotion and oral healthcare in your country, as well as how oral health is currently integrated into your country’s health system.

This comprehensive survey also aims to understand how we can support our members with the operationalization of the upcoming 2023 action plan on oral health, making sure that you are consulted and invited to input in your areas of expertise and that we reflect your national challenges and solutions in FDI’s advocacy efforts.

The survey contains 30 questions and should take between 1 to 2 hours to complete. Please note there is no word limit for open text responses. You can preview the questions in case you wish to prepare your submission in advance.

The survey will close on 13 September 2021 at 5 p.m. CEST. A version in Spanish and French are also available. Should you have any questions or comments, please contact Liz Arnanz Daugan at larnanzdaugan@fdiworlddental.org.
