The healthcare sector is responsible for approximately 5% of global greenhouse gas emissions, with oral healthcare playing a meaningful part in it. The Sustainability in Dentistry Project aims to empower oral health professionals, dental educators, students and patients to minimize their environmental impact through prevention-focused care, resource-efficient practices, and global collaboration.

A practical user guide complements the slides, offering step-by-step suggestions based on the open-access report Curriculum Content for Environmental Sustainability in Dentistry. It helps educators understand not only what to teach, but how to integrate sustainability across subjects in a meaningful way.

The project’s user-friendly webpage makes it easy to access everything you need. Visitors can preview and download slides in both PowerPoint and PDF formats, link to the FDI Sustainability MOOC for further learning, and explore curriculum mapping research that aligns sustainability topics with key areas of dental education.

Who Can Use This?

Dental educators, curriculum developers, and practicing professionals interested in sustainable dentistry are encouraged to explore and apply these resources.

The future of oral healthcare is not just about healthy smiles—it’s about a healthy planet, too. By adopting the tools and insights from the Sustainability in Dentistry Project, we can all play a part in reducing dentistry’s environmental footprint.
