Tobacco use remains one of the major challenges to international health and all health professionals have an important role to play in helping to stop the global tobacco epidemic.

In response to this challenge, FDI launched its Tobacco Cessation project in 2020 to provide dentists and dental teams with smoking cessation and control resources that can be implemented in the dental setting. 
 

The project aims to:

• increase awareness of the fundamental role of the oral health profession in tobacco cessation 
• increase awareness of the dangers of tobacco smoking to oral health, and
• increase the knowledge and skills of dentists and dental teams in providing tobacco cessation interventions in dental settings. 

In recent years, FDI, alongside various National Dental Associations (NDAs), is making a meaningful impact by conducting Tobacco Cessation Workshops as part of its project. These workshops aim to educate and train dentists and dental teams to deliver tobacco cessation advice to patients in their practices.

How can you conduct a Tobacco cessation workshop in your country?

Whether you are a Regular or Associate member NDA, you have the opportunity to apply for a CHF 1000 grant to host a Tobacco Cessation Workshop. As part of this initiative, you can utilize our comprehensive workshop package and project resources, including the Tobacco Cessation Guide (available in English, French, Spanish, Arabic and Japanese). 

Additionally, you’ll gain access to video animations for dentists and dental teams, which present how to deliver a three-to-five-minute intervention in the dental setting to help tobacco users make a quit attempt.
