Abstract :

Impacted teeth are one of the most commonly encountered complaints in the orthodontic office. Whether the impaction is obvious to the orthodontic patient such as maxillary central incisor impactions, discovered during routine dental examination such as impacted canines, or have gone by unnoticed such as premolar and molar impactions. Knowledge of etiology of such impactions is needed to acquire skills to prevent and intercept future impactions. Diagnosing impactions radiographically using cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) is an expert tool the orthodontists should have for effective planning the surgical and orthodontic protocol for bringing the impacted tooth into the dental arch. This course provides basic to medium information to help build a strong foundation of knowledge, demonstrating all these diagnostic skills in addition to the different surgical and orthodontic protocols, also the course cover Surgical guide construction for canine loaclization

Learning objectives :

  • Localize radiographically the exact position of the impacted tooth using 3D CBCT.
  • Visualize the effect of the impacted tooth on the neighboring teeth.
  • Distinguish different criteria for choosing the most suitable surgical exposure approach.
  • Identify different orthodontic protocols for impacted tooth extrusion and alignment.
  • understand Basic concept of Surgical Guide
