WHO EB156 - FDI-IADR statement on Item 7

FDI World Dental Federation and the International Association for Dental Research applaud prioritizing oral health within preparations for the 2025 UN High-Level Meeting on NCDs. The Bangkok Declaration on Oral Health highlights Member States’ call to include public health measures to prevent and manage oral diseases in the Political Declaration of this meeting. We strongly support this request.

Bangkok Declaration also calls for including three targets on oral health in the Global Monitoring Framework for NCDs. Oral diseases are the most prevalent NCDs, and this inclusive approach is essential for comprehensive NCD surveillance, and response.

Therefore, we urge the WHO Secretariat to include targets on:

  1. the prevalence of the main oral diseases,
  2. access to essential oral healthcare and
  3. measures to reduce free sugar intake in the NCD Global Monitoring Framework and stress the essential role of research in achieving these targets.
