Abstract : 

The integration of Facial and Functional Aesthetics in Dentistry represents an important evolution in the aesthetic and therapeutic approach to patients, promoting the association between function, health, and facial balance. Unlike an exclusively aesthetic perspective, this field incorporates anatomical, functional, and biomechanical knowledge, allowing for more individualized and natural treatments. The objective of this lecture is to discuss the benefits, impacts, and challenges related to the incorporation of Facial and Functional Aesthetics into contemporary dental practice.
Among the main benefits observed are the improvement of facial harmony, tissue support, assistance in muscular dysfunctions, bruxism, facial asymmetries, and signs of aging, as well as the positive impact on patients’ self-esteem and quality of life. The role of the dental surgeon becomes broader and more integrated, simultaneously considering both functional and aesthetic aspects.
